Hmm, where did Monday go? meetings all day, and then when I got back to the hotel I went to sleep at about 4:30 in the afternoon and slept straight through till 3am, getting mostly caught up from the long trip. Today more meetings, plus a chance to meet and videotape a few students (hoping that the volume worked, will have to see about that), and then dinner with my two Indonesian friends, Irid and Asmir Agoes, who have been involved for many years with social change through international education, through the East-West Center and other organizations. Here is some information about the conference that Irid co-convened last week. My colleagues at High/Scope were kind enough to provide a driver for me to get back and forth to Irid’s and Asmir’s home, as the Jakarta traffic is so bad that it wouldn’t really have been possible otherwise and a cab would have been problematic.
Jossy, one of the High/Scope staff who went on the museum jaunt on Sunday posted some pictures to her facebook account.
You can see more about Jossy on her facebook page.
We also cooked up some Bali plans, as Vidy, my Sunday tourguide and chief High/Scope admissions person, has a brother who is a tourguide for real on Bali. We agreed that he will meet me at the place I’m staying on Saturday morning and take me snorkeling and to see some of the nearby temples. They all think I’m a little crazy to stay in Amed, 3 hours away from the main tourist area near Denpasar, the airport, but I think the non-tourist areas will be much nicer, and now that I have a known person to keep an eye on me I am totally up for the adventure and even the driving.
But in the meantime I will be earning my keep, with a meeting with all the high school teachers tomorrow along with a special training for the 3 EASE coordinators. Thursday night will be a parents’ meeting. I’d better get some rest.
